Stopping sexual violence before it starts
Sexual Violence affects most of us either personally or through the experience of a loved one. In fact, 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys have been sexually assaulted before the age of 18 (source). Because sexual abuse and assault is so prevalent, it is important that all of us know about this issue and how to support those affected by it. More importantly, we need to work to prevent violence before it starts!
The Collins Center is committed to educating individuals and raising awareness throughout the community, while additionally working toward changing attitudes, norms, behaviors and environments that allow sexual violence in our society. We believe sexual violence is preventable, but it will take a comprehensive approach to address all factors on multiple levels. The Collins Center's prevention team is extensively trained in primary prevention models geared to individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
